It's wrong, just like mixing dictation with manual typing. Do not use key commands to type text while dictating! That would be going behind Dragon Dictate's back, and will create navigation problems later on. and serious problems will result.ĭictate should be controlled only by voice, something that the program's documentation paints in moralistic terms as obeying the "golden rule." The manual is littered with dire warnings about breaking the golden rule. Disrupt that by using the keyboard or mouse at all. Thus, Dictate tries to keep its own internal record of a text box's content and where the pointer is currently located.
Because of the way Dictate interacts with the Mac, it has trouble "seeing" the text in text boxes. Which brings us to the key weakness of Dictate: the "golden rule." While entering large blocks of text through dictation is a pleasant experience, any other manner of working is. Simply say the number to activate the control (terrific in Explorer or in programs that use the Ribbon). Or take another example: NaturallySpeaking has a great "show numbers" command that can throw up small numbers over every active control in the current window.

It's a phenomenal feature that makes voice recognition feasible for use during browsing sessions, but it's not available on the Mac (to be fair, it doesn't work with all PC browsers, either). Simply say the name of a link on any Web page and it gets clicked. To take one example, NaturallySpeaking on the PC can control Internet Explorer in amazing ways. Still, this sort of control has real limits.
